LGBT Academy of Recording Arts (LARA)

OUTMUSIC - The LGBT Academy of Recording Arts (LARA) is registered as Outmusic Inc. a 501c3 non-profit organization that serves as an umbrella to support the work LARA (LGBT Academy of Recording Arts), the Outmusic Awards and the Outmusic Foundation.

Our mission is to increase visibility and promote the advancement, contributions and appreciation of LGBT+ music, entertainment  culture & heritage as an equivalent entertainment platform. With a focus of creating opportunities to support the development of young aspiring artists, in a safe space where they can thrive and become industry professionals in the field of their interest.

The OUTMUSIC AWARDS is the biggest night in LGBT music & entertainment. Our mission is to educate, raise awareness and ensure that the contributions and achievements of LGBT+ Recording Artists, Entertainers, Producers, Engineers, Designers & Arts Advocates are acknowledged, documented, celebrated and archived into media, music and entertainment history.

To support our mission, the Academy films and archives the OUTMUSIC Awards live to tape. LARA relies heavily on the tax deductible donations to support the production of this important event and video archives.

The I AM Music Project was created as part of our OUTmusic Foundation's Sponsor A Young Person Initiative to give homeless and at risk young people access to the arts through a series of educational workshops and mentoring from creative industry professionals.

The students learn about everything that goes into producing our live production of the Outmusic Awards, the learn how to create intellectual property, how to protect it, learn techniques in performing and recording their material and what it takes to prepare for a live on the ground production and live performance on stage at the OUTmusic Awards (OMAs).

LGBT Academy of Recording Arts Declares Winners of the 9th OUTMUSIC AWARDS

After a tumultuous past year, the 9th OUTmusic Awards (OMA)– under the LGBT Academy of Recording Arts (LARA)– has bounced back with the announcement of its winners last January 24.

The 9th OUTmusic Awards was supposed to be held last January 19th but the ceremony was postponed after the non-profit organization was victimized by substantial financial fraud.

Huffington Post Audio: Diedra Meredith Talks LGBT Academy of Recording Arts with Charlotte Robinson

In celebration of Black History Month I talked with Diedra Meredith, CEO of OUTmusic Inc and Chairwoman of the LGBT Academy of Recording Arts (LARA) that recently presented their 9th OUTmusic Awards nominees and winners online.

Happy New Year from LARA!

Dear Members and Supporters,

As we close out 2015 and move into 2016, I wanted to take a moment to send a personal thank you for your patience, understanding, and compassion after the devastating setback our organization suffered.

Unfortunately, we had to abruptly postpone our production of the 9th OUTmusic Awards due to the fact that our organization is the victim of Financial Fraud Crime which caused significant and astronomical damages we were not able to recover from as fast as we wanted to. Hence, we were not able to deliver the production of the 9th OUTmusic Awards months later as we were planning.

A Federal offense like this involved much more than we imagined handling. Investigations take time, which meant our organization had to take much more needed time than anticipated.

Faith Gave Tonex a.k.a. B Slade Courage To Come Out

This video extra from the Independent Lens documentary The New Black gives us an intimate look at how singer Tonéx, a.k.a. B.Slade, shifted gears in his life as a successful gospel artist when he revealed he was gay. The news set off a storm of controversy within the gospel music world and the church, but won him new fans as well.

The Human Experience Blog feature - Why The Freedom of Expression = Music Equality Campaign Is Needed

The Human Experience Music defines moments in our lives. It takes us on a journey through our soul and saves us from the most challenging moments of our lives. Diedra Meredith, CEO of OUTmusic and the Chairwoman of the LGBT Academy of Recording Arts (LARA), also known as singer Deepa Soul, can relate to this. Music saved her life.

The LGBT Academy of Recording Arts (LARA) launched a social media awareness campaign, Freedom of Expression = Music Equality (FOE=MEQ).

The LGBT Academy of Recording Arts (LARA) to launch the Freedom of Expression Equals Music Equality (FOE=MEQ) campaign to raise awareness as part of LARA's Capital Fund initiative to raise $200 thousand dollars.

The phenomenal success of Mackelmore, Ryan Lewis and Mary Lambert's “Same Love” gay marriage anthem has created a stronger opportunity for the Academy to amplify and showcase the songs of same gender loving, transgender and queer recording artists like Mary Lambert......
